P/T Updates

The delivery of supports and services to persons with disabilities, in Canada, falls primarily within the jurisdiction of each province or territory.  As such the type and extent of supports/services provided varies considerably and is dependant upon one's place of residence.  Several provinces and territories have closed all their large institutions designed specifically for persons with intellectual disabilities while others have, in recent years, announced new investments in institutional facilities. Some provinces are actively engaged in ongoing deinstitutionalization efforts, while in others all such efforts have ceased.

On the following pages one will find updates on the status of deinstitutionalization in each of the Canadian Provinces and Territories.
