PEI Update

As of today, we still have 124 individuals with intellectual disabilities housed in inappropriate settings.  Partners for Change have met with the previous Minister of Social Services and Seniors and anticipate meeting our newly appointed Minister, Doug Currie.  In January, 2007, Partners for Change wrote a policy position paper on "Having a Home" which can be found at www.communityinclusions.ca

On October 10th, 2007 the PEI Association for Community Living in collaboration with Partners for Change will be hosting a meeting to discuss the current situation of Institutions on PEI, calling for a No New Admissions policy and exploring alternative solutions to our supportive housing options and/or supporting individuals in the community.

We are very excited to be joined by members of the National Task Force on Deinstitutionalization and look forward to their insight on the issue and more importantly their support as PEI takes the first step towards individuals with intellectual disabilities no longer being “placed in an institutionalized setting.
